COVID-19 Vaccine in Chicago, Illinois: Here Is the Update on Availability

Ever since the vaccines have been approved to be deployed around the states, the federal government, in collaboration with state-authorized health institutions, have set their nationally guarded vaccination camps around the states to help people get the vaccine.

In the case of timeline and distribution, Chicago and Illinois are both considered separate territories, and both will move from Phase 1b—which they are currently in—to the next phase as the distribution gets faster. In Phase 1b of the guidelines, people over the age of 64 and other essential frontline workers will be able to get vaccinated, along with people who have serious and high-risk medical conditions.

One of the most popular nationally guarded vaccination camps in Chicago is United Center; it is a mass vaccination point for the residents of Chicago. And it made available a total of 100,000 appointments for senior citizens, meaning that only 100,000 people would be able to get vaccinated there in the current phase, and those people will comply with the eligibility criteria. However, last Thursday evening, health officials of the territory reported that more than 27,000 of the total appointments for the vaccine have already been booked by senior citizens.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot's office made a statement than 27, 819 seniors of Chicago will receive their first dose of coronavirus vaccine at Chicago United Center. It is a hint that the remaining appointments are still available for eligible people.

As for the vaccination process, the United Center will start providing the vaccines from March 9. On March 10, it will be completely open, attending pre-appointed people and providing them vaccine shots. According to the city officials, the mass vaccination point will continue to open for seven days a week for straight eight weeks. The federal government is supposed to help the vaccination point with security and regulation.

City officials have also made available a website and a multilingual hotline for the registration of vaccination doses. The hotline will be available for people from 8 AM to 8 PM from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday timings are 8 AM to 4 PM. However, it is warned by the city officials that the hotline may have a long waiting time, and the website is a preferred method of appointment.
