Places to Get the Vaccine for Coronavirus in Chicago, Illinois

Chicago, along with other cities of Illinois, moved recently into Phase 1B Plus, which would allow people of the age of 65+ to get the vaccine, along with essential frontline healthcare workers – that includes education workers, Covid-relief staff, childcare workers, postal service people, grocery store employees, and more. However, considering how people with conditions, such as cancer, heart complications, diabetes, pulmonary disease, pregnancy, obesity, etc., are at a higher risk of facing fatality due to coronavirus, the government has expanded the eligibility criteria and allowed people with high-risk medical conditions to get the vaccine dose in the current phase.

As much as the government is trying to speed up the process to allow everyone to get the vaccine for coronavirus, the vaccination camps have to follow the CDC's Phase-wise vaccination policy, which would not let all the residents of the city get the vaccine at first. So, they are looking for alternative places where the vaccine is available.

Nationally Guarded Vaccination Camps

You can find the locations of state-run vaccination sites on the CDC’s website and make an appointment to a nearby one. However, you will need to be fulfilling to the eligibility criteria in order to get vaccinated in nationally-guarded vaccination camps.

To prove your eligibility as a prioritized vaccination candidate, you will be required to prove your age to be over 65 years old with the help of social security number or a birth certificate. If you fit the eligibility of a frontline worker, you may need to show proof of employment, such as an employee ID or a recent payslip from your employer.

Once you are proved to be a verified candidate, you will be vaccinated. If not, you will be rejected.

Grocery Stores

Coronavirus vaccine is also available at grocery stores and supermarkets, such as Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, and more, which are located at different locations throughout the city.

In order to get vaccinated at a pharmacy of such stores, a person would be required to provide proof of employment, social security number, and medical license (if there is any). However, such policies vary from store to store. Moreover, the timings of each store might be different.

Hospitals, Clinics, and Health Institutes

Hospitals throughout Illinois are also providing vaccines for coronavirus. However, different hospitals have different policies. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is providing vaccination to the currently admitted patients only, while Loretto Hospital is providing vaccination to the general public on the basis of eligibility as per the policy of Phase 1b. Timings of hospitals differ.
